“Within SETRIS (Strengthening European Transport Research and Innovation Strategies) project, two Work Packages are almost completed (WP1: Connecting Passengers for seamless travel and sustainable mobility and WP2: End to end logistics) and the WP3: Modal SRIAs and roadmaps is in process to be completed,” Dennis Schut, Research Manager at UIC said, during the Railway Pro Technology and Services Forum, organised by Railway PRO, Club Feroviar and the Romanian Railway Industry Association (AIF) in April 2017.
SETRIS includes 6 Work Packages and brings together 5 Transport European Technology Platforms (ETPs) – road, rail, air, water and logistics.
The aim of SETRIS project is to deliver a cohesive and coordinated approach to research and innovation strategies for all transport modes in Europe through five objectives that include the updating of research agendas and roadmaps at modal and multi-modal level; the defining implementation plans, based on business scenarios; the monitoring of the progress status on transport research and innovation activities towards the commonly identified needs and agreed objectives. Developing links and coordination strategies between the transport-related ETPs (Transport European Technology Platforms) and technology platforms existing at national level and the increasing visibility of research and innovation activities, and contributing to the dissemination of results are among the objectives.
The WP2: End to end logistics involves two tasks-urban logistics and long distance freight and its objective is to identify and assess the level of integration foreseen by the relevant strategic research and innovation agendas (SRIAs) when targeting the delivery of a seamless freight transport and logistics operation across Europe.
The WP2’s urban transport context involves the achievement of a full integration of freight flows in cities’ operations and activities that allow citizens to access the goods they require and the goods to reach the citizens, while at the same time supporting sustainable development.
Within long-distance task, it aims at achievement of EU wide co-modal transport services within a well synchronized, smart and seamless network, supported by corridors and hubs, providing optimal support to global supply chains door-to-door aiming to.
