According to a project initiated by Oradea Transport Local (OTL), in 2017, the local transport operator will launch a tram network extension plan that includes another 8 km.
“Thus, in the programming period 2014-2020, Oradea local administration plans to expand the lines in the southern area of the city, on Calea Aradului – Făgărașului Street – Atelierelor Street route (with access to OTL depot) and then the link on all directions with D. Cantemir Street. There will be 8 km of new line and costs are estimated at EUR 10 million. Another area where Oradea plans to expand the tram route is the western area, on Șoseaua Borșului”, said Istvan Csuzi, OTL General Manager, during the passenger transport session of the Railway PRO Technology and Services Forum, organised by Club Feroviar and Railway PRO, with the support of the Romanian Railway Industry Association (AIF) in Arad on 5-6 April.
Over the past 15 years, EUR 15 million were invested in tram infrastructure works in Oradea.
Also, a feasibility study on the need to upgrade OTL’s TATRA T4D + B4D trams will be elaborated in 2017. Oradea Municipality was the first in Romania to introduce new trams in 2008 when it procured 10 new Siemens ULFs.
The European funds of the new financial exercise would also result in the modernisation of a 10-15 Tatra trams (with EUR 3 million).
