Railway PRO Forum: Bucharest Metro Line 6 project continues

“The design, technical assistance and work supervision contract of Bucharest Metro Line 6 project is ongoing. The feasibility study has been reviewed and the technical and investment indicators of the investment have been approved”, declared Marin Aldea, General Manager Metrorex during the Railway Pro Technology and Services Forum, organised by Railway PRO, Club Feroviar and the Romanian Railway Industry Association (AIF) in April 2017. Preliminary design has been carried out, the attribution documents are reviewed according to the new law on sectoral public procurement and the tender book for the procurement of consultancy services necessary for expropriations is drafted.
In December 2016, the Romanian Government approved the technical and economic indicators for Metro Line 6 – Gara de Nord –Otopeni Airport. The project was proposed for financing in the Operational Programme Large Infrastructure 2014-2020. The cost of the project is over EUR 1 billion, VAT free and includes the construction of 14.2 km of railway, 12 stations served by 12 trains. According to Metrorex, works could be initiated starting with the end of 2017 and would be put into operation 48 months after the beginning of works.
The railway will start from 1 Mai station to Henri Coanda Airport and will have a maximum capacity of 50,000 passengers per hour providing direct connection between Gara de Nord and the Airport. The location of metro stations will be in the passengers’’ points of interest (Romexpo Exhibition Centre, Baneasa Shopping Centre, Baneasa Rail Station, Henri-Coanda Otopeni Airport etc.), and will also enable the economic development of the area.
