The preliminary proposals for a public-private partnership for the upgrade of the Koper-Divača rail section are expected by this summer, Infrastructure Minister Peter Gašperšič has announced, quoted by The Slovenia Times. “We are counting on signing a private investor towards the end of 2016, until which time the construction permit will have been secured and construction launched,” he added.
The schedule is in line with the demand that Slovenia must upgrade its rail network to standards required for designation as a pan-European transport corridor. If construction works for the Koper-Divača rail section start at the end of 2016, the project will be finished by 2023.
The cost of the project is estimated at EUR 1.4bn. An international audit of the investment value will be carried out in cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, with results expected in early 2016.
