Prague municipality plans to build new tram lines to the city’s and Central Bohemia’s metropolitan areas, namely to Zdiby, Průhonice and Jesenice. The announcement was made by the Vice Mayor of Prague, Petr Dolínek. Two new tram lines will be built to support a better connection between the capital city of Prague and its metropolitan area.
According to Deputy Mayor Dolínek, trams are a much more efficient solution than buses because they do not have such a negative impact on the environment.
Thus, Prague Public Transport Company wishes to start building the two tram lines from Prague to the southern area in the immediate future.
One of the lines will head to Průhonice via Čestlice counties, both of which are located in the Central Bohemia Region.
The second tram line will head to Jesenice, a city also located in Central Bohemia. The municipality of Prague intends to build here the Metro Line D, which will link the center of Prague to the southern metropolitan area.
The initiative to build new tram lines is part of the region’s development plan proposed by Prague Public Transport Company, a plan which it hopes to complete by 2030. The strategy is much broader and requires the construction of about 30 tram lines by then.
The total length of the tram network in Prague is 142.4 km and the trams secure the transport for over 360 million passengers annually.
