PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe has announced a new railway project valuated at PLN 966 million (EUR 227 million) involving the modernisation of a rail section between Kraków Główny (the Central Station) and Rudzice situated on E30 line.
The project involves the upgrade of 20 km section in the Krakow agglomeration, 55 km of traction network, 200 level crossings and the construction of two bridges over Vistula River. In addition, two local centers will be responsible for an efficient and safe train management. The project includes 56 engineering objects of which 22 will be newly built: viaducts, culverts, underground passages, flyovers and pedestrian bridges
Under the project, 8 stops and stations will be redeveloped, and two stops will be constructed in Krakow Grzegórzki and Kraków Złocień (on Kraków Agglomeration rail network). At all stations, PKP PLK will install information systems for passengers and modern dynamic-passenger information systems for disabled people.
New interchanges will increase the integration of railway transport and the public transport system within the city of Kraków, and the modernisation of the line will allow the increase of traffic flow.
The project is part of “Works on the railway line no E30, Kraków Główny Towarowy-Rudzice section, along with the construction of metropolitan line tracks” programme and is cofinanced by the European Union.
