In cooperation with Skanska, the project’s general contractor, FIMA has upgraded Libiąž railway station between Katowice and Kraków in southern Poland, completing thus its first rail upgrade project in Poland. Skanska, which was awarded the tender to upgrade the station by PKP a year ago, entrusted FIMA’s Polish subsidiary, FIMA Polska Sp. z.o.o., with the work to upgrade the traffic control, telecommunications and power supply systems.
FIMA prepared technical documentation and implemented the traffic control signaling system for Libiąž Railway Station. The system included installation of signals and railway point actuators. The station was also equipped with point heating and loudspeaker communication systems. Train axle counters and intermediate station line blocking systems were provided at Libiąž and two more stations. The company also installed control and video surveillance systems at two level-crossings.
The upgrade means that Libiąž railway station is now more convenient and safer for passengers while the maximum speed of trains passing through the station has nearly trebled: the line speed has been increased to 100 km/h for passenger trains and 70 km/h for freight trains.
