Poland awards another contract on E59 line

Poland’s infrastructure manager, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, and Astaldi – Costruzioni Linee Ferroviarie S.p.A. consortium signed a PLN 355 million contract (EUR 84 million) for the modernisation of Rawicz  – Leszno rail section, on Poznań-Wrocław mainline. Under the contract, the works will start in October and will be completed in 2020 and involve the modernisation of 35 km line and the modernisation of Rawicz and Bojanowo railway stations.
“The modernisation of Rawicz – Leszno rail section, with a value of PLN 355 million, is the second contract on the Rawicz- Czempin rail route. The investment will provide shorter journey time from Wrocław to Poznań and will increase safety and comfort at the railway stations. This year, PKP already signed contracts valuated at PLN 10 billion [EUR 2.366 billion],” Arnold Bresch, PKP Member of the Management Board said.
The project is co-financed by the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility and is part of “Modernization of the E 59 railway line on the Wrocław – Poznań section, Stage IV, Czempiń – Poznań section of the Lower Silesian Voivodship – Czempiń.” The total cost of the project is PLN 1.5 billion (EUR 355 million), of which PLN 1.2 billion (EUR 284 million) will come from the EU.
Rawicz  – Leszno rail modernisation is part of Poland’s National Railway Program up to 2023 that involves PLN 66 billion (EUR 15.6 billion) investments. In 2015-2016, the value of the new tenders increased by PLN 2 billion (EUR 473 million), from PLN 25 billion (EUR 5.9 billion) to PLN 27 billion (EUR 6.4 billion). For this year, the company plans to launch tenders valuated at PLN 6.8 billion (EUR 1.6 billion).
