PKP Intercity and Polish company H. Cegielski signed a PLN 273 million (EUR 64.37 million) contract for the modernization of 60 type 111A/141A carriages.
Under the contract, H. Cegielski will have to deliver the first modernised coaches in the fourth quarter of 2018 and the project will have to be completed within 30 months. The vehicles will be put into operation on railway routes from Szczecin to Olsztyn or from Zielona Góra to Gdynia.
The carriages will be equipped with new seats, air conditioning, power sockets, and electronic passenger information system.
“PKP Intercity is increasingly investing in the modernisation and acquisition of new trains and carriages. This contract is another step towards this goal,” Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Bittel said.
Within the tender PKP Intercity received two offers, from Pesa Bydgoszcz and H. Cegielski- Poznań, the offer of H. Cegielski being “more attractive”, says PKP Intercity.
The carriages will run on five routes:
Szczecin – Tricity – Olsztyn – Bialystok
Wroclaw / Zielona Gora – Poznań – Gdynia / Olsztyn – Bialystok
Krakow / Lublin – Katowice – Wroclaw – Zielona Góra – Szeczecin – Świnoujście
Przemyśl – Lublin – Warsaw – Bydgoszcz – Gdynia/Piła – Kołobrzeg/ Gorzów Wielkopolski
Suwałki – Białystok/Lublin – Warsaw – Poznań – Szczecin/Gorzów Wlkp./Zielona Góra
Under PKP Intercity’s 2020 strategy, EUR 589.5 million (PLN 2.5 billion) will be invested for the acquisition of new coaches and trains and for the modernistation of the existing rolling stock.
