Comboios de Portugal (CP) has revealed plans to extensively refurbish its fleet of 10 tilting Pendolino trains. Railway Equipment Maintenance Company (EMEF) – the rolling stock maintenance arm of CP – will overhaul the interior and exterior of CP’s Alfa Pendular trains. They have been in service since 1999.
The refurbishment programme, which will start later in 2016, will involve remodelling the interiors as well as work on the mechanical and hydraulic systems.
EMEF will deliver the EUR18 million project from its site in Barreiro. Each train set will be out of service for three months at a time while the overhaul is carried out.
