Oman Rail received bids from 11 consortia for construction Sohar – Buraimi line (207 km), the first phase of its railway network. The contract is expected to be awarded in the third quarter of 2015 and construction will start in 2015 – 2016. Oman Rail has set the target for completion of the first phase for the end of 2018.

The Sohar-Buraimi stretch connects the Port of Sohar to the GCC rail network at the Sultanate’s border with the UAE at Al Buraimi and Khatmat Milahah.
