The reconstruction of the main railway station in Olomouc was completed after several years of works. Besides overall modernisation of the station, the project also had as objective increasing line speed which allowed shortening journey times especially for fast trains. The construction was implemented by an association of companies led by OHL ŽS.
Under the project, the main and passing tracks were completely reconstructed. The current platforms were modernised and acquired new roofing. An important part of the construction was also rebuilding bridges and culverts in the given line section.
Train routes in all directions were provided with new signalling and communication equipment. Reconstruction also affected the electrical distribution system, power feeding and lighting. The construction also included modernisation of the catenary in the whole affected line section. Signalling equipment including integrated telecommunication installations was modernised as well. An automated system of traffic control technology is newly in use.
The project is supported by financial resources from the European Union under OPT 2007–2013 and OPT 2014–2020.
