New York Mayor De Blasio announced he would not approve granting MTA the additional USD 2.5 billion requested for metro repairs. However, the city will continue with its original plan to give the agency USD 657 million over the next five years.
This funding is bigger by USD 157 million than the first amount that the city had planned on giving the state authority in the preliminary budget. Is is also the same amount MTA had asked for in the beginning, before it upped its request to USD 2.5 billion. The MTA has a USD 14 billion deficit in its capital budget.
