New York issues LaGuardia AirTrain RFI

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has launched a Request for Information (RFI) for the proposed LaGuardia AirTrain system, vehicles and system technology. The RFI is accepted until July 20, 2017.
The Port Authority is seeking information from companies that manufacture rail vehicles and rail vehicle components for automated people movers or metro or light rail technologies. The Port Authority may use this information to help inform next steps for the proposed AirTrain system at LaGuardia Airport.
In May, the Port Authority selected Parsons Brinckerhoff Inc. to conduct preliminary engineering and other planning work for a new AirTrain connection to LaGuardia Airport. Under the contract, the company will carry out the preliminary planning work for three different components of the project that involve the construction of up to 2 new AirTrain stations at the new terminal buildings at the airport, the construction of an AirTrain station at Willets Point and the construction related to the “right-of-way” for the train from the airport to Willets Point.
The AirTrain system is part of LaGuardia Airport and will provide a direct connection between the airport and the metro system and the railway commuter transport system (Long Island Rail Road-LIRR). The project consists in the construction of a 2.4-km railway from the airport crossing Grand Central Parkway with Mets-Willets Point Station as destination located on metro line 7 and LIRR line.
