Bus and train users across West Yorkshire can now pay for journeys using mobile phones. A new app allows passengers to pay for tickets in advance on their Android phone then load up their MCard travel card. MCard is a smartcard ticketing scheme run jointly across West Yorkshire since 2014 by train and bus operators.
The app was developed by Molten Mouse, a full service digital delivery agency specialising in the public and transport sectors, and can be downloaded from the Google Play store. It is not yet available for Iphone users.
“Our customers already have a variety of retail options to choose from when purchasing their travel tickets and loading them to their MCards, including bus station Travel Centres, bus and rail station ticket machines, as well as more than 700 Payzone outlets. The app will simply enhance this offer and give passengers complete accessibility to buying and loading their MCards 24/7 wherever they find themselves,” Richard Armitage, chairman of the MCard scheme, said.
