PJM was commissioned with the production of the instrumented wheelsets and the test runs

Graz, February 2024

PJM is responsible for the track tests of the new passenger cars for Czech Railways České dráhy (ČD). The Austrian system specialist for rail vehicles was commissioned by Siemens Mobility to manufacture the measuring wheelsets and carry out the test runs. The measuring wheelsets were completed last year and the first test runs started in December 2023. Test runs are expected to be carried out on the entire Austrian rail network until May, including on the high-speed section of the Westbahn line and in Alpine terrain in Tyrol. This included testing the running behavior and brakes at 230 km/h or in extremely wintry conditions in the snow.

„PJM was again commissioned for the overall approval of a new rail vehicle. Our customers rely on our many years of experience in the implementation of projects and our extensive metrological expertise. PJM is now an established partner for overall approvals”, says Martin Joch, CEO of PJ Messtechnik.

This project also confirms Austria‘s railway expertise. The new passenger coach is being de- signed and manufactured by Siemens Mobility, while the measuring wheelsets were designed and produced by PJM in Graz. The set-up for the vehicle tests in the brake area also took place in Graz, while the driving technology was set up in Vienna in cooperation with the ÖBB‘s technical measurement group. PJM is responsible for the measurement campaign as an accredited test centre in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025.

As an accredited test center according to ISO/IEC 17025:2018-03, PJM was commissioned to manufacture the instrumented wheelsets and carry out the approval tests in the specialist areas of vehicle dynamics and brakes. Credit: Manuel Hanschitz

The order for 180 Viaggio Comfort passenger cars is another logical step in the modernization and expansion of Czech Railways České dráhy‘s (ČD) fleet. The new vehicles will make train travelling even more comfortable and entertaining. Wi-Fi, frequency-permeable windows enabling stable mobile phone reception, an on-board information system and electronic seat reservation will be available as standard. The carriages are also equipped with a children‘s cinema and space for 12 bicycles.
