The completion of the rail line linking Thailand and Cambodia may be delayed due to compensation issues with people living along a 1 km stretch of track in Poipet town, the Cambodian Transport Ministry announced. On that particular section, laying of the track is not yet finished. The train service on the line was expected to begin early this year.
The track between Cambodia and Thailand is already connected from Poipet to Aranyaprathet district in Sa Kaeo. After being put in service, trains from Banteay Meanchey province’s Sisophon town to the Thai border will have a maximum speed of 50 kilometres per hour.
