Czech Railways (ČD) is gradually introducing into international operations two new types of comfortable open carriages which have come into existence by rebuilding carriages with individual compartments. These wagons also offer comfortable travel to passengers using wheelchairs in an air-conditioned environment, a special compartment for passengers travelling with children including space for stowing a pram or stroller, and space for stowing bicycles. These carriages will serve in regular operations on connections on the Prague – Ústí nad Labem – Děčín – Berlin – Hamburg – Kiel route.
Passengers will also have a Wi-Fi connection available. Passengers will be kept informed on the progress of the journey by an audio-visual information system with several LCD monitors located in the open compartment and boarding areas.
Nine type Bhmpz 228 modernised carriages each offer 60 passengers an open compartment with seats arranged behind one another accompanied by folding tables, or with seats facing one another accompanied by larger tables with fold-out leaves.
Another nine class Bdmpz 227 carriages each offer passengers 72 upholstered adjustable seats arranged in a similar manner. One of the boarding areas also includes space for stowing eight bicycles. Other equipment, e.g. electrical sockets, tables, shelving for large luggage items and a Wi-Fi connection, is similar to that of the carriage type described above.
