During a Forum on Infrastructure, in Tete (Mozambique), the Mozambican government presented a set of five-year projects for 2015-2019 to a panel of local and foreign investors. The ambitious construction of a rail network is among these new projects.
Estimated at about USD 20 billion, the network that should connect the south of the country to the north, will span an average distance of 3,800 kilometers. It should extend to existing railways and extend them from the interior to the coast as well as existing ports and those that are preparing to be built.
Although the economic feasibility of this gigantic project is not yet established, the government in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, intends to prepare the ground for mobilizing investments with various entities, including local and external entrepreneurs and financial institutions.
