Mosgortrans, Moscow tramway operator, announced on August 8 that it has launched a tender for a contract to supply and maintain 300 low-floor LRVs.
„The urgent purchase of 300 new low-floor vehicles is another step aimed at increasing the comfort of tram use, which will run on the newly rehabilitated rail lines. We expect that the competition will play a significant role for land transport, and for the domestic industry. The conditions indicated in the documentation are designed to significantly improve the quality of the new trams and trigger a new round of development of transport engineering”,General Director of Mosgortrans, Yevgeny Mikhailov, said.
Deliveries will take place in three phases between 2017 and 2019, meaning 100 trams per year.
Mosgortrans continues to implement a series of measures aimed to develop the tram transport sector and create a modern and comfortable infrastructure for the urban passenger transport. Over the last 5 years Moscow repaired over 140 km of single tramway track and another 50 kilometers will be repaired before the end of 2016.
