The first section of Kozhukhovskaya Line, the new line of Moscow Metro, will be open next year, according to the Deputy Moscow Mayor for Urban Development and Construction Marat Khusnullin.
“We are studying the possibility of opening the Kozhukhovskaya Line’s section between Nekrasovka and Kosino stations in late 2017,” he said.
About 4 km of tunnels on this line, as well as 3.5 out of the line’s 8 track sections between stations have already been built, said Kirill Markov, Deputy Chief of Directorate No. 3 at Mosinzhproyekt.
Two six-metre heading machines currently operating on the Kozhukhovskaya Line are digging two single-track tunnels, a traditional metro-construction option in Moscow, between Nekrasovka and Kosino stations. A large 10-metre heading machine is set to begin work in January 2017.
“Two trains will be able to simultaneously run on parallel tracks through one large tunnel, due to link Nizhegorodskaya Ulitsa and Yugo-Vostochnaya stations,” Khusnullin explained.
There are plans to completely open the 17.2-km long Kozhukhovskaya Line in 2018. The line will stretch from central Moscow to Nekrasovka, a remote district in southeastern Moscow. It will also pass through the Vykhino-Zhulebino, Ryazansky, Nizhegorodsky and Ukhtomsky districts, where there are no metro stations so far. It will be possible to change to the Third Interchange Circuit at Nizhegorodskaya Ulitsa station.
The Kozhukhovskaya Line will run parallel to the existing Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya Line and will intersect with it at Kosino station, where people will be able to change to Lermotovsky Prospekt station.
