Moscow to build metro stations with stereoscopic ceiling

moscow-metro-stereoscopic-ceilingThe Moscow Committee for Architecture and Urban Development (Moskomarkhitektura) has approved an interior design plan for Govorovo, a new metro station on the Kalininsko-Solntsevskaya Line. It will be located in the Solntsevo District just off the town of Moskovsky in the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky administrative areas.
Under the project the station will have a suspended plate-glass black ceiling with a special lighting system creating stereoscopic effects. Contoured fluorescent lamps with labyrinth-like patterns on them will add a volumetric touch to the composition. “Polished grey granite tiles used for floor finish will enhance the lustre,” Moscow’s Chief Architect Sergei Kuznetsov said.
The holes in the slabs will be faced in glass. The pillars will be lit up from the inside – the effect will be like glistering droplets of water. The upper and lower parts of the pillars will also be illuminated. This will make the station look more spacious.
Govorovo is due to open in 2017. In the same year, five more stations of the Solntsevo section of the Kalininsko-Solntsevskaya Line will be brought into service.
Earlier, an architectural design for yet another metro station, Borovskoye Shosse in the Novo-Peredelkino District, was approved.
