Operation at the Moscow Railway Smaller Ring (MKZD) is to be launched in September 2016, OAO RZD President Vladimir Yakunin said in his blog, Russian Rail Consulting writes.
“The plan – adjusted and compliant with Moscow Government plans – is to launch operation at the Ring in September 2016. The reason is that construction of additional transport and transfer junctions was required – they will allow passengers to transfer from the railway ring to Moscow Metro stations,” Yakunin wrote.
OAO RZD and Moscow Government signed an agreement on the MKZD development in 2008. It is expected that 250 million passengers will use it annually. The 180-km MKZD will operate 100 EMU train pairs.
