Morocco high speed rail project delayed

China's top train builders merge, eye world marketThe construction of the Tangiers-Casablanca high-speed rail link has been delayed by bureaucratic problems. One of the issues concerns the expropriation procedures for the land over which the railway will run, as the owners consider the compensation inadequate and have taken their cases to court. Other problems were linked to geological assessments, which brought to light risks and slowed the project down. Moreover, civil society representatives have contested the project on account of its high price, saying that the 25-billion-dirham (2.3 billion euros) costs are unsustainable and could have been put to better use. Trains running on the line will have a maximum speed of over 320 kilometers per hour from the current 200. Initially, the deadline for the project was the end of 2015.
