Moldovan Railways upgrades 4 locomotives

cf moldovaMoldovan Railways (CFM) has upgraded 4 locomotives to enable the transport of larger freight volumes.
Around RON 3 to 5 Million (EUR 134,000 – 224,000) have been spent on the major overhaul of each locomotive and purchase of new parts.
The locomotives have been overhauled in 4 depots in Basarabeasca, Balti, Bender and Chisinau. Traction engines, main generators and diesel generators have been changed. Exterior modernisation works have been carried out for some of the locomotives.
“Almost all CFM trains and locomotives have exceeded their lifecycle. That is why we need to repair them to extend their lifecycle. The overhauled locomotives will be operated for another 5 years’, declared the company’s general manager, Iurii Topala.
At the beginning of the year, CFM upgraded other two locomotives.
CFM plans to launch the tender for the procurement of 10 multi-system locomotives which require investments worth EUR 110 million. CFM, EBRD and EIB signed a financing agreement through which EBRD will allocate EUR 52.5 million in two instalments. The first instalment worth EUR 27.5 million will be used for the acquisition of locomotives, while the second, EUR 25 million, instalment will be dedicated to infrastructure modernisation projects. In parallel, EIB will allocate a similar loan.
