The Metropolitan Council announced that the Southwest Light Rail Transit (SWLRT) project, connecting Eden Prairie to Minneapolis-St. Paul, has incurred an extra $19 million in cost delays. According to the Council, this is due to inaction by House leadership to provide the remaining state share of funding.
The legislature adjourned before passing any funding for the SWLRT project, putting its timeline and future in jeopardy, the Metropolitan Council said.
The project was originally estimated to cost $1.2 billion. Further engineering has revealed an increased estimate of $1.839 billion. The current delays cost $1 million each week
