Minneapolis: federal approval for Blue Line LRT

03-MinneapolisThe Federal Transit Administration gave its approval for the Blue Line light rail project to move into the engineering phase. Following the approval, the Metropolitan Council can begin engineering work to prepare for construction in 2018. Passenger service is expected to begin in 2021.
The $1.5 billion 13-mile line will connect Target Field in downtown Minneapolis to Brooklyn Park through north Minneapolis, Golden Valley, Robbinsdale and Crystal. The Federal Transit Administration is expected to pay 49% of the project’s overall cost. The rest would be paid by the Counties Transit Improvement Board, Brooklyn Park, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority.
