Mexico City to order new metro trains

Mexic_metrou_533384579b87eThe government of the Federal District of Mexico City is planning to launch tenders for a contract to supply 15 new rubber-tyred trains for metro Line 1. The tender for 45 new trains for Line 1 is estimated at a cost of Pesos 10.5 billion (USD 700 million). The trains will be technically similar to the NM02 trains used on lines 2 and 7, albeit with an improved electrical and mechanical specification. Details of the tender will be publsihed in Mexico City’s official gazette. The 20-station Line 1 runs for 16.7km from Observatorio in the west to Pantitlán in the east. Mexico City Public Transport System (STC) has confirmed that tenders for the extension of Mexico City’s Metro Line A and Line 12 will be announced during the first half of this year. The 13km extension of metro Line A will connect La Paz with Chalco and include eight stations which will serve an estimated 314,000 passengers per day. The 4km extension of metro Line 12 will connect Mixcoac to an interchange with Line 1 at Observatorio. Construction on both lines is expected to start this year.
