Philippines’ Department of Transport is reviving plans for Metro Manila metro system as part of its long-term strategy.
Noel Kintanar, the Department undersecretary for rails and toll roads, revealed the plan as he supported private sector participation in helping build key infrastructure, including railway lines, in the capital district and key areas, including Cebu and Davao.
The metro line under PPP will connect major business districts in Metro Manila via a 12 km underground line. The Makati-Pasay-Taguig Mass Transit System Loop project is estimated at PHP374.5 billion (USD 8 billion), being the largest PPP project released.
Earlier, the Department announced the plans for the construcion of new light rail lines including LRT4 Taytay-Ortigas and LRT 6 (Niyog, Bacoor-Dasmariñas City)
In addition, authorities will extend LRT 2 under an operation and maintenance PPP contract that includes the modernisation of rolling stock and rail stations.
