Luxtram awarded Spanish rail manufacturer CAF the contract for a EUR83 million contract to supply the trams for Luxembourg ‘s first light rail network. The first phase of the route between Luxexpo and Pont Rouge is scheduled to go into passenger service in 2017. The line’s first tracks will be laid at the beginning of next year.
Thus, CAF will supply 21 high-capacity trams for the line – the first of which will arrive in the city at the start of 2017. The new vehicles will be designed to negotiate a catenary-free section of the line between Pont Rouge and the city’s main railway station.
Luxtram, which is leading the design and construction of the new line in the city of Luxembourg, also received submissions from Alstom and Stadler.
