PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (Poland’s rail infrastructure manager) has announced a new tender for the reconstruction of a tunnel connecting three railway stations in Łódź – Fabryczna, Kaliska and Żabieniec.
The project involves the construction of two new stops in the tunnel, offering a convenient access to the center of the city.
The project will be implemented into two stages. The first one involves the construction of the railway tunnel on the Łódź Widzew Lodz – Fabryczna section and a new station. The value of the project is PLN 1.75 billion (EUR 387 million). The design and construction works are scheduled for 2017-2022.
The diametrical tunnel in Fabryczna station will provide new opportunities for the Łódź Railway Jonction and will allow a direct long distance rail services on north-south and east-west axes.
The tunnel under the city will be built on two directions, the northern side to the Żabieniec station and the southern side to Kaliska station.
