Lithuanian Railways has announced an open competition on the preparation and implementation of the expropriations for European standard railway section Kaunas-Lithuanian/Latvian state border, as part of Rail Baltica. The land acquisition involves the following regions: Kaunas City Municipality, Kaunas District Municipality, Jonava District Municipality, Kėdainiai District Municipality, Panevėžys District Municipality and Pasvalys District Municipality.
The deadline for the submission of proposals is August 3, 2017. Proposals are to be prepared in the Lithuanian language.

Within Rail Baltica project, Lithuania has already built the European gauge railway line interconnecting the state border with Poland and Kaunas. In July, Lithuanian Ministry of Transport, the Lithuanian branch of the RB Rail AS and Ardanuy Ingenieria signed the contract on conduction of the upgrade feasibility study for the section “Polish/Lithuanian state border–Kaunas–RRT Palemonas”.
Lithuania has submitted applications to the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and has secured investments of approximately EUR 340 million from this facility for the “Rail Baltica” project until 2021.
In addition, in June, the European Commission announced that Rail Baltica received a EUR 448 million financing, of which EUR 338 million for the Białystok – Elk line (in Poland) and EUR 110 million, available for the joint project by the RB Rail consortium, between Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
