Lithuanian and Kazakh representatives agreed over more active co-operation in order to boost cargo volumes transported between the two countries, including co-ordinated actions seeking to attract transit cargo from China.
The delegation from Kazakhstan visited Vilnius (last week) and signed a letter of intent with the Ministry of Economy to strengthen bilateral co-operation in the areas of transport, energy, science, health care, tourism and agriculture. The sides identified the need to hold a meeting of the container train development working group in the nearest future.
Deputy Minister Arijandas Sliupas informed news agency ELTA that the creation of a joint logistics company for the development of intermodal transportation infrastructure will be analysed.
The issues and prospects of container train projects Saule (Sun) and Baltijos Vejas (Baltic Wind) were analysed. It was agreed to review the possibilities for Lithuanian petroleum company Klaipedos Nafta to co-operate with Kazakhstan and use Klaipeda port.
