Representatives from the United States and from NATO’s Force Integration Unit in Latvia have begun evaluating the infrastructure operated by Latvian national rail company, LDz.
The planned investments foresee the construction of new sidelines, renovating current sidelines, extending the loading and unloading site at Garkalne Station, as well as other modernization and infrastructure improvement works. More than EUR 1 million will be invested for these projects.
In order to support and ensure allied cargo shipments in accordance with NATO standards, LDz has already invested EUR 200,000 in improving its infrastructure.
Already now LDz infrastructure is used to transport non-military cargo to Afghanistan, as well as transporting military equipment participating in military exercises in the region.
