Latvian railroad company Latvijas Dzelzcels hold the opening ceremony for a new sorting facility at Skirotava Rail Station. The sorting facility will make transit routes to Latvian ports more competitive, Edvins Berzins, the head of Latvijas Dzelzcels, said.
Skirotava Station is the largest and most important railroad hub for shipments to Riga ports. The sorting facility will speed up freight processing and streamline operations at Latvijas Dzelzcels, said Transport Minister Uldis Augulis.
The project’s total cost amounted to EUR 40.3 million, of which EUR 24 million came from the European Union’s Cohesion Fund, EUR 6.85 million from the state budget, and EUR 9.53 million from Latvijas Dzelzcels.
