The first section of the automated Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) Line opened for passengers on 16 December. This is the first of the planned three-line Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) network set to increase connectivity and reduce congestion across Greater Kuala Lumpur.
In his speech during the launching ceremony, the Prime Minister said that the project is special for all Malaysians, especially those who lived in the Klang Valley.
The SBK Line has been equipped with Bombardier’s Cityflo 650 rail control safety solution. Using wireless data communication between the train, track equipment and central traffic control, Cityflo 650 increases the capacity of the line, supervising train position and speed and reducing the operating distance between trains.
Phase One of the project involves a line with 12 stations between the Sungai Buloh Station and the Semantan Station. The remainder of the line from Semantan to Kajang, which includes the underground section, will open in July next year under Phase Two operations.
When completed, the SBK Line will have 51 km and will be one of the longest fully-automated metro lines in the world.
