The rail passenger transport service had been stopped due to construction works to upgrade the line for extending the high speed service to Karaman. The first phase of the construction works, ground works and double-track laying are expected to be completed in February.
Noting that the new line will also contribute to the transport of industrial commodities to Mersin Port through Adana, Lutfi Elvan, Minister of Transport, underlined that the new line will also increase passenger mobility to and from the region with railways.
The new Konya-Karaman high speed is the first phase of the Konya-Adana high speed railway line, along the South axis. Planned to be completed in 16 months, the Konya-Karaman line is going to be integrated with the Konya-Ankara HSR and thus with the Ankara-İstanbul HSR and will be used for both freight and passenger transport at a speed of 200 km/h.
