The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works has selected Kiewit Infrastructure Co. to build The Milwaukee Tram’s Phase 1 line, Lakefront Extension and Operations and Maintenance Facility. Under its contract, Kiewit will be responsible for all construction activities, including installation of the rail, the overhead contact system and streetcar stops.
Kiewit was one of seven firms from around the country that submitted proposals to build the system.
Kiewit will be issuing requests for proposals for subcontractors in the near future and will also hire local employees. A contractor forum will be conducted in September to provide an opportunity for DBE and local firms to learn more about the streetcar project and opportunities to bid for work on the job. The project will also incorporate a job-training program.
