The Jerusalem Municipality submitted plans for the Blue Line of the light rail system, which will extend from the Gilo neighborhood at the southern tip of Jerusalem to Ramot, the northernmost neighborhood.
The decision to draw the train’s route through Emek Refaim was taken in coordination with the public and after a long procedure in which all the alternatives and residents’ opinions were taken into account.
The 20 km-long additional light rail line, named the Blue Line will traverse Malha, Emek Refaim and Ramot, serving up to 250,000 residents from Gilo in the south, to Ramot in the north.
The Blue Line, the third light rail line of the city, is due to be completed in stages.
For the Green line, the second light rail line of Jerusalem, plans were approved by the city of Jerusalem in June 2016, with tenders to be issued in the first quarter of 2017.
