Israel: new step in ETCS Level 2 project

07-israelIsrael Railways sent the documents for a closed tender for new railway track signalling equipment in the framework of the project of switching to ETCS Level 2. The value of the contract is estimated at NIS 2.5 billion (EUR 614.7 million). Alstom, Siemens, and Thales, the three prequalified companies, have 3-4 months to submit their bids. The winner will be selected in September.
The ETCS Level 2 project is organized in three separate tenders: one for the railway track equipment, one for the equipment installed in the locomotives, and one for the GSMR independent cellular network. The tender for the independent cellular railway network is currently underway, the deadline for bids being 31  January. The third tender (locomotive equipment) will be issued later this year.
The project is slated to be finalized in 2022, but the first section on the high-speed line between Herzliya and the Hauma railway station in Jerusalem is set to open in 2019.
