Based in Bussnang, East Switzerland, Stadler provides solutions for rail vehicle construction. Approximately 7,000 employees work in productive collaboration in locations in Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, Belarus, Algeria, Australia and the USA. Stadler offers a comprehensive product range in the field of standard gauge railways and local city transport including: high speed trains, intercity trains, regional trains and rapid transit systems, metros, tramtrains and trams. Stadler Service is responsible for maintaining 16 vehicle fleets comprising over 300 vehicles with an annual kilometre riding of 72 million kilometres.
In 2016, Stadler became part of an historical project: the world’s longest railway tunnel, the Gotthard base tunnel, was officially opened in June. From 2019, the new “Giruno” Stadler Gotthard trains will transport passengers through the tunnel from Switzerland to Milan in record time, and later from Frankfurt to Milan.
At InnoTrans 2016, Stadler presented some of the vechicles it has sold worldwide, as the new sleeping car produced for use on the Baku-Tbilisi-Istanbul international line. To enable cross-border operation, Stadler has developed a bogie with gauge-adjustable wheelsets. The contract allowed Stadler to successfully enter the railway market in Azerbaijan. The contract is for the delivey of 30 such sleeping-cars.
Stadler unveiled the new Citylink hybrid light rail vehicle produced for the German city of Chemnitz. The Citylink tram-train precisely meets the requirements of a city with advanced mobility.
Also, at the InnoTrans trade fair, Stadler unveiled the new Eurocity train, which will operate from the end of 2019 through the Gotthard Base Tunnel connecting Basel/Zürich with Milan. With EC250 Stadler has developed a high-speed train for SBB on the basis of the highly successful FLIRT. The initial order is for 29 eleven-car trainsets with an option for additional 92 units.
The first Variobahn light rail produced for the Danish city of Aarhus was also displayed at InnoTrans. The order includes 14 Variobahn light rail vehicles and 12 Tango tram-train vehicles. Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark, is the first town in the history of the country to build a completely new tramway-system. The first Variobahn is already in Aarhus for type and integration testing.
Another product which was presented is the EURODUAL UK locomotive. The Class 88 locomotive is a further development of the Class 68 platform. The Class 88 is a true dual-mode 4-axle locomotive adapted to UK gauge, with AC/ AC transmission and low axle load. The first order came from Direct Rail Services in partnership with Beacon Rail Leasing Limited for ten state-of-the-art Class 88 dual powered locomotives to be used in passenger and freight transport services in the UK, at speeds up to 160km/h, combining both 25kV electric and diesel operating modes.
