India and Germany have agreed to collaborate on railway safety and to form a joint working group in this regard. According to the Indian Railway Ministry, the agreement on the set up of a joint working group was reached at a meeting between Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and German Minister for Transport and Digital Infrastructure Alexander Dobrindt.
“The working group would look into the training, technology and processes for improving safety. This working group on safety would be a deliverable on Inter-Government Consultations tentatively planned in Berlin in May 2017,” the ministry said in a statement.
India also requested Germany to extend its proposal of a high speed rail study for the Mysuru-Bengaluru-Chennai corridor to Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh).
The German side expressed its willingness to undertake a feasibility study on speed increase on the existing Indian railway network.
