Starting November, contractors bidding for railway projects in India will be able to track the entire process online, as the government aims to improve transparency and streamline access to information.
“We have implemented an all India accounting software; it has been up and running for the last couple of months. We are going to now dovetail it with the procurement part of it, so that right from the time of procurement of materials to the actual process of tendering and finalising the tender and then getting payments, everything we want to put it online,” Railway Board Additional Member Finance K B Nanda said.
There is more IT integration expected in the railways by the end of the financial year.
“We are already doing the tendering part, that is the notice inviting tender and tender work is done online, even the earnest money for many of the contracts is received online, now we want to go to the next step of refunding the unsuccessful bids money online,” Nanda added.
