On 30th May-1st June, Münster hosted the 27th International Exhibition for Track Technology (iaf), where 200 exhibitors from 20 countries presented their latest solutions and technology products in the field of track construction and maintenance. “There is no other event where such a comprehensive presentation of the latest machines, devices and building technologies is given in the same high spatial concentration,” said Thomas Mainka, the President of the Association of German Railway Engineers (VDEI), the iaf organizer.
In addition to the 15,000 m2 exhibition halls, the companies presented their products on an open area of 6,000 m2 and on more than 3,000 m of real ballasted track. The innovative solutions and products were introduced by the major companies of the sector such as Plasser & Theurer, Robel, Matisa, Cemafer, Vossloh, Kraiburg Strail, Speno, SRS Rail System, Scheuchzer, Kinshofer, Goldschmidt Thermit, Harsco Rail, Autech and Liebherr. BGM, PrefaRails, AFERPI and Zeppelin Baumaschinen were the event’s newcomers.
During the ceremonial opening CEO of DB Netz AG Frank Sennhenn said that the trade is the place where machines and technologies are shown in “real and full size” that can be “virtually touched”.
At the opening ceremony, the VDEI Incentive Award 2017 was conferred, an award that honors an outstanding work of students or young engineers. This edition’s winner is Timo Strobel with his work for the “Design of a dual-mode locomotive for Stuttgarter Strassenbahnen AG”.
