Hitachi Rail Europe & Bombardier announce London joint bid

london-tube_priestmangoode_new_tube_for_londonIn a joint venture, Hitachi Rail Europe and Bombardier Trains have submitted a bid to build New Tubes for London (NTFL). As part of a joint venture, Hitachi Rail Europe and Bombardier have summited a bid to build up to 3,300 new tube cars which are due to be rolled out from the mid-2020s on Piccadilly, Waterloo & City, Bakerloo and Central Lines.

Hitachi and Bombardier initially pre-qualified to bid separately, but have entered into a collaboration to draw on the strengths of both companies in a joint bid. Hitachi and Bombardier have previously formed a joint venture to produce the ETR1000 High Speed train for Trenitalia, which is now running in Italy.

According to Transport for London (TfL), The New Tube will mean faster, more frequent and more reliable journeys for customers travelling on the deep-level lines. In addition, the new trains will feature improved accessibility and safety features including walk-through carriages and wider doors.

The contract to build New Tubes for London will be awarded in autumn 2017.
