Helsinki City Transport HLK revealed the design concept for the LRVs that will be put into operation on Raide-Jokeri LRT, connecting the cities of Helsinki and Espoo.
At the end of 2016, the subsidiary of Škoda Transportation, Finnish Transtech announced that it will deliver a total of 49 new modern vehicles to the capital of Finland. HKL exercised an option for 20 low-floor trams for Helsinki city traffic, and signed a Letter of Intent for purchasing further 29 trams for the new Raide-Jokeri. The total price for both contracts is over EUR 150 million.
Raide-Jokeri line will be 25 km long of which 16 km will be in Helsinki and the remaining 9 km in neighbouring Espoo. The route will have 33 stops and will replace the existing trunk bus route. The new bi-directional vehicles for this route will be 34 meters long. The first prototype shall be delivered in summer 2019.
In April 2017, HLK announced that three consortia are prequalified for tendering the design and construction of Raide-Jokeri LRT project. The companies must deliver their offers this June, and the decision on the selection of the winner will be announced in October.
The prequalified companies must submit their offer until June 5, 2017. The decision on the selection of the winner of the contract will be announced by the end of October.
The total value of the project is EUR 460 million and the European Investment Bank announced that evaluates the project with a EUR 200 million proposed financing.
