Länsimetro Oy announced that metro line to Matinkylä is estimated to be completed in June. According to Länsimetro Oy, the line could possibly be opened for traffic until Tapiola in April. The schedule will be updated in January/February as the testing proceeds.
The metro in the Helsinki metropolitan area is implemented into two phases. In the first phase, a rail line of 14 km from Ruoholahti to Matinkylä will be completed including eight new stations.
Within the second stage project (Matinkylä – Kivenlahti line), in September, the European Investment Bank has signed off EUR 100 million to finance phase two of the West Metro project in Helsinki. Altogether, a loan facility of EUR 450 million has been approved for the second phase of the project. Additional payments will be made throughout 2017.
