Hamburg to have more Alstom trains on its U-bahn network

Hamburger Hochbahn (Hamburg U-Bahn operator) will continue to expand and modernize its metro rolling stock fleet. Further 27 type DT5 vehicles manufactured by the Alstom/Bombardier consortium were ordered. Thus, the number of DT5 ordered vehicles rises to 107. The current order has a value of over EUR100 million.
The 40m-long three-car sets were ordered using an option from the original 2006 contract for 67 trains. An initial option for 13 extra trains was exercised in March 2015 and the latest option takes the total number of DT5s in service or on order to 107 sets.
Alstom will assemble the trains at its German plant in Salzgitter with Bombardier supplying traction equipment.
