Grampet Cargo Austria in bankruptcy. The Austrian subsidiary of Romania’s largest private freight operator, Grampet Cargo Austria, has gone bankrupt.
Trouble in the Austrian market culminated in 2023 after GCA began incurring significant debts to OBB, the Austrian infrastructure manager. GCA lost the right to operate on the railway in Austria for debts of EUR 800,000. “The INV with Grampet Cargo Austria (GCA) was cancelled at the end of July. GCA’s safety certificate is also no longer valid. Its main activity was the transport of slag from Moosbierbaum-Heiligeneich to Mistelbach, and the company also transports damaged wood on an ad hoc basis,” Austrian regulator Schienen Control reported late last year. The INV is the contract, the authorisation granted by the Austrians to a company for the use of infrastructure.
Trouble is not just that, however, but also the bankruptcy of GCA, already pronounced in a Viennese court decision in December 2023. The company started to run into major problems after the resignation of Călin Grațian, the company’s CEO, from the executive board. The Viennese court has summoned GRAMPET Group’s creditors to file for bankruptcy, with the next hearing due to take place this very day on Wednesday 19 June.
Grampet has set up its subsidiary in Austria in spring 2021. The company is represented in Bulgaria (Bulgarian Railway Company), Hungary (Train Hungary), Serbia (Eurorail Logistics).
The turnover of the parent company, Grup Feroviar Roman was RON 1.05 billion (about EUR 200 million) in 2023, with a profit of RON 23.77 million (EUR 4 million) Grup Feroviar Roman reported a workforce of 2522 employees in 2023.
