GE Transportation announced it signed a contract to provide Instituto Nacional Dos Caminhos de Ferro Angola (INCFA) with 100 GE C30ACi locomotives to be used in Angola over the next three years. This deal also includes services, tools and training. The GE C30ACi locomotive, a six-axle diesel-electric locomotive with a 12-cylinder 3,000 horsepower FDL-series diesel engine, will be built in Erie, Pennsylvania in the United States and delivered over three years starting in 2016. The C30ACi is an Ecomagination product.
Angola is looking to be a leader in the region as a transportation hub. In 2013, the governments of Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia re-committed to the success of the Lobito Corridor to bolster trade in the region and drive regional growth. This investment in infrastructure could reduce the cost of general freight and mining transportation by 80%.
“GE Transportation is committed to building world-class service delivery capabilities in Angola. The deal reflects this commitment by providing knowledge transfer, human capacity and skills training,” said Thomas Konditi, President and CEO of GE Transportation Sub-Saharan Africa.
